The Davis Septet played two concerts (8pm and 11pm) at the Playhouse. Herbie Hancock's
Headhunters were also on the bill. The tour began at Constitution Hall, Washington
(March 15); Syria Mosque, Pittsburgh (March 17). It continued into the midwest: Northern Illinois
University, DeKalb (March 26); Kiel Opera House, St. Louis (March 27); Riverside
Theatre, Milwaukee (March 28); Arie Crown Theatre, Chicago (March 30) -- and probably
other dates as well. But Davis collapsed with a bleeding ulcer after the St. Louis
concert, and the remaining stops on the tour had to be canceled.
