This was part of a "Battle of the Bands" presentation by Rudi Blesh and the New York Herald. The bop band was Parker's group (with Milt Jackson added on "Anthropology"); the Dixieland band included Wilbur de Paris (tb), Sidney Bechet (ss), Buster Bailey (cl), Ralph Sutton (p), Walter Page (b), and George Wettling (d).

Potter has a nice opening solo on "Barbados," and the group plays "Anthropology" at a blistering tempo. These tunes compare very favorably to the Roost titles of this period. The introduction is missing on Philology, and the speed is a bit off (about a quarter tone sharp).
