Davis left the Parker Quintet soon after this date -- he stormed off the stand, complaining that "Bird makes you feel about one foot high." Parker quickly replaced Davis with Kenny Dorham, who remained with Parker at the Roost through March 12, 1949.

After leaving the Parker Quintet, Davis participated in an all-star group led by Oscar Pettiford that included Fats Navarro, Kai Winding, Lucky Thompson, Dexter Gordon, Milt Jackson, Bud Powell, and Kenny Clarke.
