Parker, whose quintet was booked at the Royal Roost at the time, joined Norman Granz's
JATP touring group for this Carnegie Hall concert. He is the first alto soloist
on each of the three long numbers.
The personnel for the first set (through "How High the Moon") was Navarro, Turk,
Parker, Criss, Phillips, Jones, Brown, and Manne, with Ella Fitzgerald taking a
brief solo turn on "Perdido." For the second set (through "Stuffy") it's Hawkins
(replacing Turk), Criss, Phillips, Jones, Brown, and Manne. Ella Fitzgerald and
Her Trio (Jones, Brown, and Manne) performed, then Parker returned to the stage
along with Machito and His Afro-Cubans.
The notes to Fantasy PACD 5311 list the date as November 2, but the correct date
is February 11.
