Parker has serious reed problems throughout this session. During a taped interview several years later (May 1, 1950), Parker tells an amusing story: Rubberlegs Williams accidentally drank Parker's coffee, which had been spiked with benzedrine. Listen as Williams' singing gets increasingly urgent as the session progresses. Eventually Trummy Young replaced him. Williams "sings" on the first five numbers, Young on the last four.

"4-F Blues" and "G.I. Blues" are two takes of the same tune.
