The location and date of this music is uncertain. The recording circulates as from
"Petersburg, New Jersey" but without a more specific date or venue.
The presence of Keith Jarrett and Airto Moreira, and the absence of a second percussionist,
along with the performance of the "What I Say"-like "Untitled Original 701004,"
suggest a date from late 1970 to early 1971. The presence of "The Theme" as the
set-closer is also a clue, since the "Sanctuary" theme replaced it at some point
between the Fillmore Auditorium concerts in October 1970 and the Cellar Door shows
in December 1970. So my guess is that this concert occurred sometime in November
or early December 1970. Around this time the Davis ensemble performed at Princeton
University's Alexander Hall (November 14), at Crouse Auditorium, Syracuse University
(November 21), and at Suffolk Community College's Brookhaven Gym (two shows on
November 25).
