NDR Jazz Workshop No. 6; produced by Hans Gertberg. Two other titles were performed: "Little Leona" (5:20; J. Acea), after "Cherokee," and "Edie McLin" (7:00; G. Wright), after "Lover Man." Thanks to Noal Cohen for bringing these extra tunes to my attention. As Cohen points out in his excellent Lucky Thompson discography, "Y-Spot" ("Topsy" spelled backwards) is clearly not by Count Basie, although he's credited as composer in the NDR logs. The tune bears a strking resemblance to Eddie Durham and Edgar Battle's "Topsy," which was of course associated with Basie's band.
