Davis played as a sideman in this Konitz-led studio group. The real star was George
Russell, returning to the scene with the compositions and arrangements on "Odjenar"
(written for his wife, painter Juanita Odjenar) and "Ezz-thetic" (for Ezzard Charles).
Konitz has a nice solo on "Ezz-thetic," and Davis stays in the background throughout.
Konitz's "Hibeck" (written for his daughter Rebecca) is based on "Pennies from
Heaven"; Davis plays a one-chorus solo following Konitz. Davis has some nice phrases
in the introduction and coda of "Yesterdays," but Konitz is the only soloist.
