Another marathon session: more than an hour of music spanning two reels of tape. As on "Circle in the Round" from December 4, Beck does not solo but simply doubles Carter's bass line. Hancock plays both Wurlitzer electric piano and RMI Electra Piano -- not electric harpsichord as stated in the notes to the Quintet box (Mosaic MQ10-177, Columbia Legacy C6K 67398). There is a barely audible second drum part in the right channel throughout (a stick on the rim of a snare drum). The identity of the drummer is a mystery.

Thanks to Frederik Adlers for help identifying the keyboards.

Live dates around this time include Jazz Workshop, Boston (November 20-26); Royal Arms, Buffalo (November 27-December 5); Plugged Nickel, Chicago (December 6-10 -- Reggie Workman replaced Carter on bass for the first night, and the group without Davis played a matinée on Sunday, December 10).
