Samples of various Davis performances are used in this piece, which was recorded in 2019 and included in the
soundtrack to Stanley Nelson's film Miles Davis: The Birth of the Cool. The date(s) and location(s) of the
sampled performances are unknown, but they sound like the mid-1980s. The New York location for the 2019
recording is a guess.
The soundtrack includes "music from and inspired by Birth of the Cool." In between the commercial recordings,
people associated with Davis in one way way or another -- George Wein, Frances Taylor Davis, Gil Evans, Jimmy Cobb,
Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Marcus Miller, Erin Davis, Carlos Santana, Quincy Troupe, Jack Chambers, Greg Tate,
Ashley Kahn, and Vincent Bessières -- discuss Davis, his music, and his impact on jazz and culture.
The long version listed above is available on YouTube; I don't know if it has been issued commercially.
