Adam Holzman says that these recordings took place at the A & R studios in New York. According to Robert Irving III, Davis' tpt was overdubbed after the tracks were recorded.

The music listed was included in the soundtrack to the movie Street Smart (MGM 1055341). Original music in the movie is credited to Davis and Irving, but according to Adam Holzman the music was composed and produced by Irving and Holzman. According to Holzman, Davis played on at least 10-15 cues, some short and some longer. Twelve cues, some without Davis, circulate among collectors.

Legendary Collections Black Album (no number) lists the location and date as Los Angeles, early October 1986, and the personnel as Davis (tpt); Steve Turre (tb); Bob Berg (ts); Mike Stern (g); Robert Irving III and Adam Holzman (synth); Felton Crews and Darryl Jones (el-b); Alex Blake, Adam Nussbaum, and Vincent Wilburn Jr. (d); and Steve Thornton (perc). This suggests that the recording used for Davis' overdubs may have been made in different location and on different dates.

On Warner Brothers R2 74360 and the Black Album "Times Square" and "Punchy's" are edited to 4:16 and 1:25 respectively.
