The Davis Septet may have played two concerts in Fukuoka on this date. A typical
Davis concert on this tour consisted of two sets, with a long "Ife" beginning the
second set. So although tapes of this music have the incomplete "Black Satin" after
"Zimbabwe," I suspect that "Black Satin" is from the first set, while the remainder
of the music is a nearly complete second set. (Thanks to Pete Pablo for help with
this music.)
Lonnie Smith, Khalil Balakrishna, and Badal Roy left in May, and Davis took over
the keyboard duties himself. The new Davis Septet embarked on a tour of Japan in
June, and Europe in July. The itinerary for the Japanese tour was as follows:
June 16 (Sat): Sapporo Koseinenkinkaikan Hall (6:30 pm)
June 19 (Tue): Tokyo Koseinenkinkaikan Hall (7:00 pm)
June 20 (Wed): Tokyo Koseinenkinkaikan Hall (7:00 pm)
June 22 (Fri): Tokyo Koseinenkinkaikan Hall (7:00 pm)
June 23 (Sat): Nagoya Shiminkaikan (Nagoya civic auditorium) (6:30 pm)
June 25 (Mon): Kyoto Hall (6:30 pm)
June 28 (Thu): Fukuoka Shiminkaikan (Fukuoka civic auditorium) (6:30 pm)
June 29 (Fri): Hiroshima Yubin-Chokin Hall (6:30 pm)
June 30 (Sat): Osaka Festival Hall (two shows, 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm)
July 1 (Sun): Kanazawa City Kankokaikan Hall (6:30 pm
July 3 (Tue): Niigata Kenminkaikann (6:30 pm)
Thanks to Eric Jooris for providing me with a copy of the concert program, and to
Tom Yamaguchi for translating the schedule for me.
